The General Pension and Social Security Authority (GPSSA) is the federal body in the United Arab Emirates responsible for managing pensions and social security contributions for UAE Nationals employed in the public and private sectors. As part of its mandate, the GPSSA ensures long-term financial security for Emirati employees by administering contributions, retirement pensions, end-of-service benefits and insurance coverage.

For employers in the UAE, compliance with GPSSA regulations is a legal requirement when hiring UAE Nationals. This involves:

Registration of Emirati Employees

with the GPSSA.

Monthly Contributions

shared between the employer, employee and the UAE government.

Accurate Payroll Deductions

in line with pension laws.

Reporting & Record Maintenance

to meet regulatory obligations.

Ma’ashi Platform – Digital Transformation of GPSSA

  4. Promotes financial planning by providing tools to estimate pension eligibility and retirement timelines.

FAQs

GPSSA, Ma'ashi and Nafis, Explained

Which employees have to be registered with GPSSA?

UAE Nationals. The General Pension and Social Security Authority (GPSSA) is the federal body responsible for managing pensions and social security contributions for UAE Nationals employed in the public and private sectors, and compliance with GPSSA regulations is a legal requirement when hiring UAE Nationals. Registration of Emirati employees with the GPSSA is the first employer obligation.

Who pays GPSSA contributions?

Contributions are monthly and shared between the employer, the employee and the UAE government. On the employer side that means payroll deductions must be accurate and in line with pension laws, then reported and recorded to meet regulatory obligations. GPSSA administers those contributions along with retirement pensions, end of service benefits and insurance coverage for Emirati employees.

What is the Ma'ashi platform?

Ma'ashi is the digital platform GPSSA launched as one of its most significant digital transformation initiatives, built to streamline and digitize pension-related services. It gives employers, insured members, pensioners and beneficiaries access to services 24 hours a day, with data privacy, transparency and real-time service tracking built into how it operates.

What can employers do through Ma'ashi?

Employers use Ma'ashi to track contributions, review employee data and receive proactive compliance alerts. The alerts are the practical benefit: rather than finding a gap during a later review, you are prompted while it can still be corrected. Platform access sits on top of the underlying duties to register Emirati staff and deduct and report contributions accurately.

Can employees manage their own pension requests on Ma'ashi?

Yes. Insured members can independently manage services such as end of service requests, employment period updates and pension planning. The platform also provides tools to estimate pension eligibility and retirement timelines, which supports personal financial planning. Access runs around the clock for insured members, pensioners and beneficiaries as well as for employers.

What is Nafis, and what does it offer employers?

Nafis is a UAE federal initiative that supports Emirati citizens in the private sector, and it is integrated with GPSSA. For employers it provides hiring incentives, meaning financial benefits for recruiting and retaining Emirati talent, recruitment tools including access to a national talent pool and platform-based hiring support, and compliance alignment with GPSSA pension and Emiratization requirements.

What support does Nafis give Emirati employees?

For Emiratis, Nafis offers government-funded salary and pension supplements intended to boost income and reduce pension costs, a monthly child allowance for children of Emirati employees, and career access through job listings, training and apprenticeships on the Nafis platform. Because Nafis is integrated with GPSSA, these sit alongside the employer's pension and Emiratization obligations.
